The Story Behind the Jubilee Quarter at YWAM Furnace NZ

Have you ever been challenged to have faith for the impossible?

You know, that moment when you’re standing on the edge of cliff—and you’re facing that decision?

Have you ever been clueless at what will happen if you leap?

This is the story of our moment.

Last September, we celebrated 50 years of missionary training in the Youth With A Mission (YWAM) movement. Before the celebration in Lausanne, Switzerland, key leaders took part in 21 days of fasting to hear God afresh for the future.

They revisited Leviticus 25, where the Jubilee Year is first mentioned. Every 50 years, Israel was instructed to rest fields, return land to original owners, and release slaves with the goal of giving equal opportunity to all.

During this, God challenged these leaders to ask YWAM centres to pray about their individual response. When Dave and Sue Cole brought this to us at YWAM Furnace, we shared it with our leadership teams.

It was our accountant who suggested a tuition-free Discipleship Training School (DTS). This reminded us of a previous DTS we ran tuition-free in 2013. It was a huge leap of faith, but we saw God come through in powerful ways and hundreds of lives were transformed.

In December 2019, we took time to pray with our wider team. As a whole community, “tuition-free” kept coming up, as well as the sense to be radical in the spirit of the Jubilee Year.

At the heart of it all, we believe God is going to mobilise a whole new wave of missionaries for the harvest.

So we are taking that leap of faith again.

This June, all our courses will be tuition-free.

This is our moment.

Will you take yours?

Jesus looked at them intently and said,

“Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”

-Matthew 19:26 (NLT)
